Spiral Moon Academy was founded in 2022 with a vision: to create a safe, inclusive, academically strong learning space for Pagan and Pagan-friendly families. We recognized a need for supportive educational environments where Pagan children can feel seen, respected, and connected to peers with shared or similar beliefs.
Our founding organization, Spiral Moon Family Circle, is a family-focused, eclectic Pagan community in southeast Michigan and a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit religious organization. SMA extends this mission into the realm of education by offering welcoming, flexible learning opportunities rooted in respect for diversity, curiosity, and community.

Our Spiritual Philosophy
What makes Spiral Moon Academy Pagan-friendly rather than simply Pagan-themed?
Pagan traditions are diverse and decentralized. Unlike Christian schools built around a single sacred text and doctrine, Pagan practitioners draw wisdom from many sources—history, nature, folklore, mythology, scholarship, personal gnosis, and cultural tradition.
At SMA, we acknowledge that diversity while celebrating shared foundations:
- Care for the Earth and all living beings
- Respect for equality and community-based decision making
- Recognition that love is sacred
- Acceptance of personal expression, including body art and self-decoration
- Understanding that the world holds wonder, beauty, and magic
Our goal is not to enforce belief, but to create space for curiosity, conversation, and connection.
Our Approach to Curriculum
To support academic excellence while honoring spiritual diversity, SMA blends the best of secular education with optional Pagan-informed exploration.
- Secular academic core: We use established, proven secular curricula for core academic subjects such as math, science, reading, and writing.
- Pagan-inclusive connections: When appropriate, we incorporate mythology, folklore, nature-based learning, star lore, and other topics that connect to Pagan interests.
- Enrichment & electives: Students may choose from courses that explore Pagan beliefs, cultural traditions, creativity, ritual arts, meditation, and nature study.
- Honoring sacred times: We recognize the quarters and cross-quarters as school holidays, with room to expand as our community grows.
Most importantly, we foster open dialogue. When students ask about beliefs or practices, we welcome age-appropriate discussions that broaden understanding rather than divide.
Looking Ahead
While high school offerings are not yet available, we plan to expand into upper grades in the future. Our long-term mission is to create a supportive network of Pagan schools and educational opportunities across communities.
